Zangmeister Center Expands Gynecologic Oncology Practice
Stephen J. Andrews, M.D. relocates practice from University of Toledo
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Mark H. Zangmeister Center, a leading central Ohio oncology and hematology care center, welcomes the addition of Stephen J. Andrews, M.D. as partner and gynecologic oncology physician. The gynecologic oncology practice at The Zangmeister Center focuses on the screening, diagnosis and management of diseases of the female reproductive organs, including ovarian, uterine and cervical cancers.
The gynecologic oncology care provided by the Zangmeister Center team ranges from the management of potentially cancerous conditions with minimally invasive techniques such as laser treatments, laparoscopy or the DaVinci Robotic System, to the aggressive treatment of cancer with surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy.
“We are extremely pleased Dr. Andrews will be joining our practice,” said Dr. Mark Thompson, president and managing partner of The Zangmeister Center. “His experience and personalized approach to patient care will be a great asset to our team and to our patients.”
Dr. Andrews is a graduate of John Carroll University and received his M.D. from Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine. He served his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at Tripler Army Medical Center in Honolulu, and completed his fellowship in gynecologic oncology at the University of Kentucky Medical Center in Lexington, where he was awarded the American Cancer Society Clinical Oncology Fellowship.
Dr. Andrews served in the United States Army Medical Corps in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Darnall Army Hospital at Fort Hood, Texas, and was awarded the Meritorious Service Medal and the Army Commendation Medal.

The Mark H. Zangmeister Center To Sponsor Ohio Colon Cancer Awareness Event
March is colorectal cancer awareness month
(Columbus, Ohio) March 10, 2009 – The Mark H. Zangmeister Center, a leading central Ohio oncology and hematology care center, is hosting a Colon Cancer Awareness Event on Tuesday, March 24 from 4:30 – 7 p.m. The event will be held at The Zangmeister Center at 3100 Plaza Properties Blvd. in Columbus.
According to the American Cancer Society, not counting skin cancers, colorectal cancer is the third most common cancer found in men and women in this country. The American Cancer Society estimated approximately 108,070 new cases of colon cancer and 40,740 new cases of rectal cancer in 2008 in the United States.
The death rate from colorectal cancer has been decreasing for the past 15 years, thanks, in part, to an increase in colorectal screening.
“Early detection can make a big impact on the success of colorectal cancer treatment,” said Dr. Mark Thompson, president and managing partner of The Zangmeister Center. “We’re pleased to be able to host this event to promote awareness and answer questions the community has about prevention, detection and treatment.”
The event will feature colorectal cancer survivors sharing their stories. Dr. Bruce Kerner and Dr. Joshua Braveman will be discussing colon cancer and screening. Dieticians will be on hand to answer questions about preventative diets and representatives from The American Cancer Society will also be in attendance.
Participants are invited to decorate a ceiling tile to be displayed in The Zangmeister Center’s chemotherapy and infusion suite. The center proudly features dozens of these tiles decorated by patients, families, caregivers and others who have been touched by cancer.
