• What does this affiliation mean for me as a patient?

This affiliation expands your access to the expertise and resources of The James Cancer Network while allowing you to continue your care at Zangmeister Cancer Center. It enhances your care with additional treatment options, clinical trials, and specialist input—without disrupting the relationship you have with your local care team. 

• Will I still receive care at Zangmeister Cancer Center?

Yes. Your care remains rooted in Zangmeister Cancer Center, with the same physicians and care team you know and trust. The difference is that your care is now supported by a direct connection to one of the nation’s leading comprehensive cancer centers, allowing for seamless collaboration when specialized expertise is needed. 

• What additional treatments or services are available?

Through The James Cancer Network, you may have access to advanced therapies and specialized treatment pathways that may not have been previously available in a community setting. This includes access to additional clinical trials and highly specialized services such as CAR T-cell therapy, complex surgery, and stem cell transplant evaluation, depending on your individual needs. 

• How does this improve my care experience?

This collaboration helps ensure faster access to the right diagnosis, more coordinated treatment planning, and the ability to connect with subspecialists when appropriate. It’s designed to provide the right care at the right time.

• Do I need to travel to receive advanced care?

In many cases, advanced treatments and expertise can be accessed directly through your Zangmeister care team. If highly specialized services are needed at The James, your care will be carefully coordinated to ensure a smooth and supported experience.

The James Cancer Network is a collaboration led by The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – James Cancer Hospital that connects community providers with academic expertise. As the only National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the region, The James provides access to leading-edge research, clinical trials, and subspecialty care.

What doesn’t change is our commitment to you. You’ll continue to receive personalized, compassionate care from your Zangmeister team—now strengthened by expanded resources, more treatment options, and deeper connections to subspecialty cancer expertise. 

What can I expect at my first visit?

Your first visit to Zangmeister Cancer Center is designed to feel organized, supportive, and focused on you. From the moment you’re referred, our team begins preparing—reviewing your medical records and coordinating key details to help reduce delays and ease stress. When appropriate, we can also collaborate with specialists at The James Cancer Network early in the process to ensure your care plan is informed by the right expertise from the start. 

When you arrive, you’ll be welcomed by a care team that takes the time to understand your needs, answer your questions, and ensure you feel comfortable every step of the way. You’ll meet with both nursing staff and your oncology provider, who will review your history, explain your diagnosis, and walk through treatment options in a clear and compassionate way—bringing in additional subspecialty input from The James when needed. 

Whenever possible, additional services such as lab work or imaging are coordinated quickly—often during the same visit—to help avoid unnecessary waiting. You may also be introduced to supportive resources early on, including financial counseling, social services, patient navigation, and access to clinical trials if appropriate. 

Before you leave, you’ll have a clear plan, next steps, and a care team you can reach whenever you need support—along with the confidence that your care is seamlessly connected to academic expertise through The James Cancer Network whenever it’s needed.
